About the fishing cabin

It's not a traditional fishing cabin, but we think that this place - completely decorated in the 70's space age style - will contribute to a unique fishing holiday in Amsterdam. Actually it might be the perfect place in case you're traveling as a couple. We offer one bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom and living room with kitchenette. Note that we have no cooking facilities. But we do offer a coffee maker, tea kettle and a fridge for your convenience. And with so many great bars and restaurants nearby, you don't need to bother about getting hungry for sure.

Convenient location

You will be staying in a separate part of our houseboat, with a private entrance. So no need to share any space during your stay. The location is very convenient. Not only when it comes to fishing the waters of Amsterdam, but also to discover the city when you're not fishing. The Leidse Square, Anne Frank House, Wester Church, Museum Square, Jordaan area are all within 5 - 15 minutes walking and easy to reach by public transport.  This way you are assured to get the best of both worlds: close to great fishing waters and close to cool other things to do.

Note 1: We support Catch & Release, and cleaning fish is strictly not allowed aboard our studio.

Note 2: In The Netherlands we have a closed season for fishing from April 1 to the last Saturday in May. So make sure not to book during this period if you want to go street fishing in Amsterdam

Note 3: We  strictly forbid the use of drugs and party of any kind aboard the houseboat. We think fishing is the best addiction you can have ;-)

About the fishing

Although you could technically fish from the window, we recommend to go out there and discover the many great canals, the Amstel River and the IJ River. These waters are known for their amazing zander, perch and pike stocks. After making a reservation we will share more details about the right spots and what bait to use. But to give you an idea of what to expect and how to fish, we will already give you a summary below.

General Amsterdam street fishing guide lines

Fishing the canals in Amsterdam can best be done with the dropshot technique and by casting softbaits on jigheads of 5 - 15 gram. On the drop shot a slightly smaller plastic results in better numbers of perch and zander. On average a 5 - 8 cm softbait works perfect. When casting with a jighead, we recommend shads from 6 to 10 cm.

When you want to catch zander in Amsterdam, always be sure to fish close to the bottom. Just let your bait drom to the bottom, twitch it up maximum 30 cm and let it drop again. The moment that the baits drops down, is when the zander will swallow it. Bang! Another one bites the dust...

If you're after perch, you can fish both the bottom and the middle part of the water. Not only soft plastics, but also crank baits can work very well. The more noise and vibrations, the more perch it will attract. One bait we want to mention is the Salmo Hornet; this is without a doubt the best perch lure for Amsterdam.

If you want to catch pike, you have to take into account this this species is harder to catch. But the Amstel River has got a healthy pike stock and can expect fish over a meter for sure. Casting larger softbaits (25 - 30 cm is no problem for the big mama's), and make sure to take rattle lures in case the water is murky.

Don't miss a bridge

Another simple rule for street fishing success: make sure to cast a line under every bridge you see. This is where specifically zander like to hide in the dark and hit any smaller fish passing through. Be careful with using too expensive lures because there is a good chance that you get stuck on a bike!

We hope to have given you a good impression of what a street fishing holiday might look like, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions - always glad to help!

Super fun fishing weekend with my dad Show original

For my 12th birthday I got a weekend of fishing in Amsterdam. Together with my father, we slept on this houseboat and that was super cool. We fished a lot from the shore and caught many zanders in the early morning. The biggest was also my personal record: 72 centimeters long !!! The landlord gave us good tips and also gave some lures. Together with my father, we caught more than 50 fish this weekend, I think. Thanks for the great weekend!
