About the fishing cabin

The Loosdrechtse Plassen are a set of connected lakes, offering first class fishing for big fish. Both carp and pike grow exceptionally large, making this a very popular destination for anglers from both The Netherlands and abroad. Rent our houseboat and get out there, find the perfect spot and drop your anchor. We also provide a smaller dingy with a 4 HP outboard that you can take along.

You can park in the harbor and get aboard your floating fishing cabin right away. Inside you will find a comfortable lounge- and sleeping area, as well as a well equipped kitchen and a bathroom.

The lounge corner offers four seats and a dining table. At night you turn this space into a comfortable double bed. This is highly appreciated by anglers who want something else than their regular bivvy. Especially the heating, speakers and running hot and cold water are things our guests like.

On top of the boat there is a part that can be folded out to create two extra, unique beds.

About the fishing

Basically there are two species that the Loosdrechtse Plassen are best known for: pike and carp. Not only because of their numbers, but also because of their weight and length. Let's first have a look at the carp fishing options.

Carp fishing (April - December)

Most anglers choose to dock on one of the many islands on the lake and place their rod pods next to the boat. The waters around the islands are good carp fishing spots and offer lots of interesting structures. Now create a feeding place with your preferred bait and your carp fishing holiday is about to kick off!

The size of carp you may expect is really serious. Catching fish over 20 lb is common, and frequently carp over 30 lb are caught. And if you're lucky you can hold a 40 lb+ common or mirror carp in your arms. Of course there is no guarantee, but chances are really good that you will catch a fish over 30 lb.

Carp fishing is basically good all through the year, expect when the water temperature drops below 8 degrees Celsius (let's say from December - March on average). Night fishing is only allowed in lakes 3, 4 and 5.

Pike fishing (all year round, except closed season)

Now another kind of fishing, also very exciting: pike fishing for the big mama's. The pikes on Loosdrecht are known for their size, numbers and power. To target pike we recommend to rent our dinghy with outboard so you can access the smaller creeks where larger boats are not allowed. Now you can both cast and troll to hook a big mama. The middle of the summer, when water temperatures are high, is usually a bit slow. But from September onward all through the winter it's party time for pike enthusiasts.

Recommended baits are large soft baits, crank baits and swimbaits. Don't be afraid to use larger baits (actually much larger than most anglers are used to use). A soft plastic of 20 - 30 cm is no problem at all for any pike over 5 lb. When I say that every year pike over 25 lb are caught here, you understand why we recommend to use larger bait...

Note that we have a closed season for predator fish from April 1st till the last Saturday of May. Carp fishing during this period is no problem.

To fish here you need a Dutch national fishing license called the VISPAS.

How to get there

Our harbor is easy to reach by car. Coming from Utrecht turn off the A2 at Breukelen and carry on to the village after passing the train station. Take a left at the roundabout driving into the village then a further right at the AlbertHein (supermarket). Carry on into the village and take a right after crossing a small bridge. The road is a narrow street which leads you over a smaller bridge. Carry straight on at the crossroad for about 1.5 km. At the next junction turn left. You are now on the Scheendijk the harbor is about 300 meters further on your right.

About the area

This beautiful area is located between the cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht both less than 20 minutes away by train. There are various good restaurants and bars in the nearby town of Breukelen which is situated along the banks of the river "De Vecht" which begins in Utrecht and ends in Muiden 45km further downstream. Along the banks there are many buildings and forts of historical interest to see reachable either by boat, bicycle or car.

During your houseboat holiday with us you can easily visit the cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht. If you go by car, just drive to the P&R in the Johan Cruijff Arena and get into town by public transport from there. Both Amsterdam and Utrecht are about 20 minutes driving away.
