About the fishing cabin
Your fishing cabin is part of one of the most complete fishing villages in Norway. The first ‘fishing cabins on stilts’ were erected around 1100 AC, and the concept is roughly still the same. You will be staying above the water and your boat is docked right in front of your cabin. There are two bedrooms with either a double bed or two single beds. The private bathroom offers a shower, toilet and sink. The living room with open kitchen is cozy and fully equipped for a enjoyable and comfortable fishing holiday. Linen and final cleaning are included in the price. If you want to enjoy breakfast, we warmly welcome you to our restaurant on the jetty.
We have two types of open fishing boats for rent: a 18 ft polyester Sting boat with 40 HP outboard and a 23,5 ft aluminium fast fishing boat with 150 HP outboard.
About the fishing
Due to our unique location on the most southwestern tip of the Lofoten archipelago, the fishing opportunities are huge. Go West to fish the wide open ocean, with many interesting plateaus where you will find huge shoals of cod. If you have the chance, try to visit us in March or April, when the big ‘skrei’ are spawning in our waters.
The strong currents are a huge magnet to all interesting species that our guests want to catch: from cod to coal fish and from pollock to halibut. Another great thing: on the East side of our island, you have shelter from the wind in case it’s blowing from the East (which is the most common direction). This way you will find a suitable place to fish in pretty much all weather conditions.
As said our waters can be very turbulent, and when the current really is aggressive during the summer months, this is usually the sign for large coal-fish to start hunting. Slender sand eel imitations are very effective, especially if the fish is swimming deep. If the larger coal fish is going after their smaller peers in the surface, you can very well start throwing hard baits and even poppers. Super exciting, super addictive!
Now let’s talk about some backbone testing aggression from the deep: halibut. Catching this fish used to be pretty much a matter of luck, but thanks to new techniques and insights, it has become a true target fish for many. Of your dream is to catch such a ‘barn door’, be assured that you found the right spot. A small coal fish rigged behind a gram halibut lead is a great way to hunt for these super sized flounders. But fishing large soft baits has become increasingly popular among avid anglers chasing halibut in the Lofoten region. And for a good reason: most people find spinning actively for halibut more fun than just drifting and waiting for a bite on a bait fish. Of course this is a matter of taste, and both techniques have proven to be successful sure.
