About the fishing cabin

This city centre houseboat in Amsterdam is the perfect fishing cabin for a hardcore street fishing holiday. It's docked at only 3 minutes walking distance from Central Station. To make your holiday as pleasant as possible we provide free bikes and canoes.

You will be staying in a private apartment aboard a traditional freight ship with the best fishing locations right under your bed. Our part of the city is known for both good perch and zander catches. And if you have the guts, you can even chase the large pike that rule our harbor.

Our houseboat is one of the first you will see once you leave Central Station. Yet, our harbor is surprisingly quiet and peaceful. So no tourist masses passing by. It's like a little oasis right in the city centre.

You have access to the apartment via a private entrance and there are no other guests. Only the host lives aboard the ship, but that's on the other side of the vessel. So privacy is guaranteed during your stay.

We offer a large and light living room with a comfortable couch to chill out. The bedroom offers two single beds, making it perfect for two fishing friends.

Furthermore there is a simple but useful kitchen, although we kindly request not cook any fish you catch. We love our Amsterdam fishing grounds and support Catch and Release.

If you want you can use our canoes to explore the city from the water, of course with a rod in your hand.

The houseboat is renovated in a cool rugged style, with the use of lots of natural and recycled materials. If you want a unique houseboat experience in the best street fishing area of Amsterdam, we promise you have just found it!

About the fishing

The waters around Central Station are famous for their fantastic zander and perch stocks. Literally every bridge has the promise of at least one interesting fish, and our harbor has so many special places that you can spend hours only fishing here.

The interesting thing is that our houseboat is docked at the very end of a pier, exactly on the point where several waterways come together. It's like a funnel that fish have to pass when going in and out of the inner city. Therefore starting your street fishing can best be done with a few casts from the back deck.

Street fishing techniques

When you go street fishing in Amsterdam we recommend to use softbaits measuring 6 - 12 cm on a light jighead (5 - 15 gram will do). Another super effective method, especially when targeting perch, is fishing with a drop shot. These techniques work very well for both zander and perch.  And for the larger perch, make sure to bring some small lures that dive 1 - 1,5 meters deep.

Fishing on the IJ and Amstel River and canals

Not only our harbor is a street fishing paradise. If you cross this water, you will reach the IJ-river. This is probably one of the best zander waters in Europe with lots of fish measuring 35 - 50 cm, but don't be surprised to hook a fish over 80 cm.

The true urban angler must pay the city centre a visit too. The canals are stocked with many predatory fish, and again the bridges are true hotspots.

Last but not least we want to mention the Amstel River. This is a wider water that holds both zander, perch and large pike. Make sure to use a steel trace when targeting this last one to avoid that your main line is ripped apart.

Important note: In The Netherlands we have a closed season from April 1st till the last Saturday in May, so don't book during this period if you want to go fishing in Amsterdam.

How to get there

You won't wast valuable fishing time during your trip to Amsterdam since the houseboat is docked only a few minutes walking from Central Station. After booking we will share the exact address and walking route.

About the area

Our harbor is a safe haven close to the buzzing city centre. There are many points of interest within walking distance, such as the Dam Square, Waterloo Square, Rembrandt Square, Red Light District and the Nieuwmarkt. Yet you are assured to enjoy a good night rest since there are no tourist masses passing by. The only things you will see come by are boats, swans and ducks. And an occasional super large mullet eating the algae from the ship. However, note that these are about the hardest fish to catch, so we strongly recommend to target the abundant zander and perch instead ;-)
